Website Migration
-
Q: What exactly does website migration mean and what does it entail?
A: If your present hosting provider can no longer measure up to the requirements of your web site, or if you go through frequent network downtime, or if you have to wait for hours for the support staff to respond back to you, it may be a good idea to change your provider, i.e. to transfer all the files for your sites together with your databases from your present provider to your future provider. At Masaka Internet Services, we are aware that this can often be hard and time–consuming. That is the reason why we’ll perform all that for you for free! Our highly qualified technical staff members will transfer your site content from your current web hosting provider to us. Our technicians have got extensive experience migrating websites and are able to take care of everything – from an ordinary WordPress–based weblog or Joomla™ CMS–powered site, to a very elaborate, custom–built web app.
-
Q: Website migration sounds like lots of work. How much time is it going to take?
A: We try to implement all web site migrations as fast as possible. Yet, we don’t have a set time frame for website migrations. There are different aspects that you have to take into consideration – the sheer size of your web site and the workload of our website migration team, etc. We always try to carry out each migration within 48 hours. With less sizeable websites, our staff typically manages to finish within 24 hours.
-
Q: My privacy is vital to me. What info do you need to have?
A: We do not request any personal data. We will require, though, the login information for your present hosting account along with the name of the site that you would like to move.
-
Q: I give you access to sensitive info. How can I be sure that you won’t misuse it?
A: Our Privacy Policy is an indivisible part of the contract that we’ll have with you as a client. We are devoted to safeguarding the security of the personal info collected from the customers. To accomplish that, we use technical safety measures in order to prevent the loss, the misappropriation, the alteration or the unauthorized leak of the private details under our control. The security measures include, but are not limited to: physical, electronic and administrative procedures to safeguard and secure the info that we accumulate on the World Wide Web. When we ask users to provide financial info (such as a credit card number), this info is encrypted using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption technology.

Q: What about downtime? Will my web site be unavailable?
A: While we move your site, it will be available both in your hosting account with us and in your account with your previous web hosting provider. As soon as the migration is over, we will make certain that everything is functioning correctly and that the integrity of your data is not compromised before telling you that the transfer is done. Then we’ll explain to you how to transfer the domain name over to your web hosting account with us and how to modify the DNS records.
-
Q: Will my present web hosting provider need to do anything?
A: While we move your website content, your web hosting provider won’t be aware of the migration at all. We will not touch base with them in any way.
-
Q: Does it make any difference what platform my present provider is using?
A: Yes. We support all conventional Linux–based hosting platforms. We do not support Windows–driven web hosting platforms, since we do not provide Windows web hosting services ourselves.Additionally, we do not support proprietary website building and administration interfaces like Wix, BaseKit, Jimdo, Website Tonight, Four Square, Mr Site, etc.
